Today was my first day at CES 2010, most people hadn’t arrived yet when I showed up this morning with bells on my toes, but that could be because the conference hasn’t actually started yet. I came a day early, not for the press conferences, not for a head-start, and not for the gambling, but for Jeff Pulver’s Social Media Jungle.
Upon arrival to the Venetian (where I received my Bloggers Badge and the coveted CES Bag) I hopped on the bus and headed to the Convention Center where all the action was just about to begin.
If you have never been to a conference hosted/produced by Jeff Pulver (@jeffpulver) you know that the sessions are fast paced and don’t leave any room for long-winded “gobbely-gook.” In the spirit of this type of conference I will give a quick & dirty recap of some of my favorite quotes, then next week I will expand on some of these ideas.
“Friends don’t let friends Tweet and drive” – Jeff Pulver
“Social media is not an industry, just like word processing is not an industry, but it has changed the way we write. Social media changed the way we listen” – @sass
“H.E.A.R. – Helpful. Engaging. Accessible. Responsive” – @sass
“Consumers want to trust you” – @weave
“Just because someone tweeted to McDonald’s doesn’t mean you have to send them a coupon. Just let them know you’re listening.” – @warrenwhitlock
“Whoever makes the link first wins.” – @setlinger
That’s it for my first day of CES, like I said, look for expanded posts on these quotes in the coming weeks.
